2010 Resolution: Paint More
Reflecting on what I was able to accomplish in 2009, I completed over 30 pieces. This was a vast improvement over the previous two years where I completed only 14 pieces combined. It was the year of refining my own style, focusing on more creative endeavors, and trying to figure out what the hell I want to do with my life.
The previous year, 2008, I had submitted my art to an art festival in Lincroft. They reviewed my portfolio, only to tell me that I had no sense of composition or color. Composition, maybe at the time. Color, no way. I thrive at color.
So I politely disagreed and became more motivated to paint what I loved, not what someone else thought I should be painting. Ever since then I have been greeted with more enthusiasm and more positivity.
That is the beauty of art and creating. It is completely subjective. I try to harness that with my art, only
creating things that I love and can be proud of. I paint for me. I do it as a way to work out my feelings and as a way to express myself. I use the colors I feel. I use the textures I feel.
Bad breakup? Quart of red paint on a canvas.
Don't feel like using a paint brush? I am not above finger painting.
In the end, it all comes down to this:
I have a passion for painting. I can sit for hours at a time on one painting and not feel a moment is wasted. I have a life to live doing what I love and I love to create.
